The atmosphere around town today was so odd. We kept hearing about neighboring areas being evacuated, but it wasn't until this evening that we heard that our town had been bifurcated and the half closer to the ocean was ordered to leave. We? Are one block to the west of them. And discussed our options for an hour this morning. We decided most of the places we could go would face the same issues: loss of power, contaminated water supply, broken windows, flooding. We're as well off staying put, for now.
We took advantage of the opportunity to visit a great local restaurant on a summer Friday night with no wait, no crowds, no problem parking. Normally at Reds, you can't park anywhere in the vicinity. Then we enjoyed a walk on the "No Trespassing" beach sans tourists. The Bird Lady was there, as usual. It reminded me of April, May, or October, November. But with flip flops.
Here's a link to the slideshow; a few faves are below. We plan to continue documenting Irene throughout the event. Mother Nature is a scary bitch. Stay tuned . . .
Yep, it could be a bracing weekend.
