Dead Tired

Well it's been a hella couple of weeks and this picture is actually an upgrade from how I deserve to feel as a result: 
But this is just the makeup I put on today. I thought it would be fun because Halloween usually brings us nothing but hordes of uncostumed (and ungrateful) teenagers.  Instead?  Looking like this?  I'm getting tons of cute little kids around 5 or 6 years old, all of them in great costumes. 

And I'm going to cause them nightmares tonight.  Not what I intended.

Overheard

It's Saturday, and we spent a lot of time around the house doing chores, catching up, etc.  I was walking through the living room at one point, and stopped to pet my cat Fiona.  She's quite deaf these days.  OK, completely deaf, but I still talk to her often because she likes the attention.  I petted her, and told her she was a good cat and a very pretty girl.  Flew right over her head and past her ears, but she knew I was adoring her anyway.

From there, I walked into the kitchen and my son turned around and said "What did you just say?"

I repeated what I had just said to Fee: "You're such a pretty girl."

And as expected, son didn't miss a beat.  "Wow.  Thanks. I didn't expect that."

Virginia is for . . .

Well, I survived my trip to Virginia and my friend's surgery went better than expected.  In fact, the last day I was there, I got out for a bit to take some pictures.  Here's the flickr set, and a few favorites below.

 

 

 

 

 

   
 

Mercy

I'm off to Virginia tomorrow.  My friend M is having surgery on her neck and I'm going to "help."  I don't quite know what "help" means yet, but I intend to do it and be good at it.  She's having three vertebrae fused together and will be in a neck brace and significant pain afterwards.  I don't know that I can make that better, but I can feed pets, vacuum, do laundry, prepare meals, help dress, do pedicures, put in videos, get mail, brush hair, refill water bottles, etc.

Groundhog Day

Yesterday morning, I woke up in the dark, propped myself up on an elbow to look at the clock, and saw it was about 15 minutes before the alarm.   I closed my eyes again briefly, then about a minute later, decided to get up and rolled out of bed.  I took the hanger holding my suit from the hook on the back of the door, grabbed my pumps also laid out the night before, and left the bedroom.  I hung the suit in the bathroom for dressing after my shower, and went into the kitchen.  Flipped on the light, turned the coffee machine on, and fed the cats.  Headed back to the bathroom for a shower.

And then I woke up.  Still in bed. Having just dreamed the entire series of events.  Then I got out of bed, took the hanger holding my suit from the hook on the back of the door . . . etc.  This time I was really awake.

Too bad I hadn't dreamed the future winning lottery numbers also. 

NJ Zombie Walk

My sister, nephew, and I participated in the NJ Zombie Walk today.   It was awesome.  There's something to be said for doing something you've never done before and never expected to.  So much FUN.
