Update below . . .
Now that all the Oscar hoopla is over, I have a prediction. I predict that on Friday night, I am going to win THE PRIZE. The UGLY SWEATER PRIZE (which started its life as a bowling trophy) at the UGLY SWEATER PARTY I'm going to. This is what I'll be wearing:
And I'm pretty sure you might have missed it in the above photo so I'll point it out to you know: THE UGLY SWEATER has these weird bump-like things all over it. Intentionally. Here's a close-up of them:
When I posted this on facebook yesterday, a friend noted that those bumps look like spider egg things. And that's exactly what they do look and feel like. I may not be able to keep THE UGLY SWEATER on all evening because I'm going to be wonder if little spider babies are going to hatch out and be crawling all over me.
Even before hearing the spider egg theory, I thought this sweater looked like a really bad Easter experiment gone wrong in the lab. But - as if the design wasn't enough on its own, the sweater also has shoulder pads, undeniably dating this item of "clothing" squarely in the 1980s. /shudder/ It's very important for me to point out here that I haven't owned this thing since that time, nor did I ever own it before I bought it at a church thrift shop last weekend specifically for the upcoming party. Set me back $3.
Pictures will be taken at the party. Whether they'll be posted anywhere public is another matter entirely. Maybe with the heads cropped off. Maybe.
Update: There were three prizes. I won for "Goddess of Gaudy" with the sweater above. This fuzzy monstronsity below was the Queen of Ugly Award-Winner:
And finally, below right is the "Plain Jane" award-winner for the sweater that I thought should have won the "Nightmare Award" or "Can't Sleep, Clowns Will Eat Me" Award. In case you can't tell, this thing has clowns on it spelling out the word "SMILE."
Be afraid.
Anyway, it was a wholelotta fun and I'm glad I get to spend my lunchtime (and sometimes more!) with these amazing ladies.
Absolutely hideous. I wish you the best. Gah!

When I saw it on flickr, I certainly wondered what it was about. But I only saw the thumbnail, and was in a hurry to get on to the next order of business of the day: (I don't remember what it was, but I remember that I was all like, "what the...")
Lotsa luck at the Ugly Sweater party!

You know, it wasn't that bad in the first pic, but when you see the spider eggs up close, I think you have it in the bag!
